Travel Information


All non SA passport holders require visas, however these can be purchased at the Kosi Bay/Ponta Do Ouro border post and are currently ZAR 180.00 per visa, or you can obtain these at the Mozambican Embassies/Consulates. Immigration taxes payable by all passport holders is currently ZAR 17.00. You will also need 2 ID photos to accompany your application, and a passport that is still valid for another 6 months minimum.

Mozambique is a malaria risk area and you should consult your nearest British Travel Clinic or doctor for advice on taking prophylactics. O Lar Do Ouro Guest Lodge has netting on all doors and windows and takes every precaution possible, but don't forget to bring your Tabard.

For those of you with 4x4's please note that you will need your car registration papers when crossing the border. You will also be required to take out third party insurance, currently costing approximately ZAR 180.00 per vehicle — boats, trailers etc are extra.

New ruling in Mozambique for all vehicles! All vehicles must have 2 x emergency breakdown triangles and each vehicle must also have a reflective vest. This vest must be worn if your vehicle breaks down, gets stuck or you get a puncture. Please also remember the ZA sticker on the left rear of your vehicle and the blue/yellow triangle stickers on the front right of your vehicle and back left of your trailer. Wear your seat belts when driving in Mozambique. Parking costs at border are ZAR 30.00 per day.

The border is open from 08h00 to 17h00 each day, peak season periods, please check times.

Ponte Do Our now has a bank, BCI, with ATM’s however at the ATM’s you can only draw with VISA cards, there are also still limited places accepting credit cards.

Guests travelling by car will be picked up at the border by staff from the Lodge. There is a car park at the border which is safe and secure and currently costs ZAR 30.00 per day.
